The kimono story
Once upon a time, everyone wore kimono in Japan. The word itself was as ordinary as its usage, simply meaning 'a thing to wear'. Today it is reserved for special occasions and recognized worldwide as the Japanese traditional garment. Being a luxury item made entirely of silk, both the garment and the skill of putting it on were passed on from mother to daughter. Each kimono has a story to tell as a witness of lifetime's special moments. This one reminisces of tea ceremonies and celebrates the aesthetics of simplicity with its solid color. It is discreetly patterend by weaving techniques alone and if you look close, you will notice the chrysanthemum and intelocking Buddhist symbols. These motifs represent longevity, rejuvenation and nobility and reflect the Japanese spirit. Sadly, this kimono could no longer be worn, and by transforming this precious silk into wearable accessories, I strive to bring it back to life and make women feel beautiful and seen. This collection is an ode to the beauty of Japanese past combined with contemporary designs.
The Kiku Collection
Kiku, or chrysanthemum, is the Japanese national flower and symbol of fall. Each piece of the collection is handmade and handsewn in Japan from a single upcycled silk kimono. The silk is luxurious and gentle to the hair. Most pieces are finished with a mizuhiki knot - a symbol of affection or togetherness. Beautiful and comfortable, they can be worn for any occasion and make the perfect sustainable gift.
